^_^ is a commonly used symbol by those who think that it is "good" even though the concept of good is entirely subjective. It is a common claim by people that it is an "emotion" but some people argue that it isn't an emotion as you never see someone who looks like: ^_^ in real life.

There are other more important uses for "^_^" the most important and therefore the only thing is that it is copywritten by His Lordship Rubiks for the sole purpose of being part of the name of the month Rubik ^_^

[edit] Early Uses

^_^ was originally used as a formatting test symbol for mechanical typewriters in the days before electricty. It didn't appear on the typewriter until 1859 when it was added by Imperial after people "demanded" the "^", because they didn't really want to fill out the feedback form. When the next model came out it was a useless key. This meant that the ^ key was in pristine condition and was used by typewriter repair men to test if the ribbon was working properly. As the underscore was the second least used key ^_^ appeared on all pieces of paper at the top left hand side.

After His Lordship Rubiks acended the thone in 1903 and renamed a month after himself there was a problem with people confusing the month with other Rubik-related products. To counterract this ^_^ was added to the end of the month Rubik.

It seems recently with the invention of the internet and the recent introduction to Liechtenstein ^_^ has become popular amongst people as a way of expressing doubt, apathy, and other emotions. Conspiracy theorists say that there is some dark secret behind ^_^ involving things like mind control and other things like that, to this date it has been proven by the Lichtenstein Subliminal Advertising Corp to be completely ridiculous. It is also well known that His Majesty, Jay Brouwer, uses the symbol unabashedly in e-mails, despite the apparent lack of straightness demonstrated by the action. It also means (utilizing a thick asian accent) "ho ho ho, soo funny ^_^ ."
