He had to nearly die in order that he might learn how to truly live

~ Oscar Wilde on Anthony Callea

Anthony Callea (born December 13, 1982) is a former Australian Idol contestant who never made it to becoming the Australian Idol. He is also Australia’s multi-award winning flop music singer and is noted for his 2004 hit The Prayer, which was proven a success as it was the only single that year to have debuted at the same number as the year - #2004 on the Australian charts. This single became the fastest-selling single in Australian history, shortly before it became the most-refunded single. About 60% of its sales were refunded, as well as the fact a further 20% were found in the garbage and another 20% in sewerage treatment plants.

[edit] Controversy

In 2008, Anthony received a huge uproar after he kissed Candice Falzon live on It Takes Two, as this was an offense to the gay community. Anthony claims he regrets this act and also said that he would “never sing with or kiss another woman live on television ever again”. He also regrets referring to his partner as a “she” in his second single Rainbows, which he dedicated to him after they separated.
