Bixification

Bixification is a made-up word formation derived from the words BixX and identification. During the first years of Web 2.0 the emerging need to commence trustworthy transactions over and above the developments of the social web have let to a series of whole new tools with bixification only one of them.

The method is simple and effective. You make a post to a forum in which you are a long time valued member. This post will include your name, the name of the partner (e.g. the receiver of the bixification) and a predefined password or passphrase (previously agreed upon by mail). Then you sent the URL as link to the receiver of the bixification by e-mail or IM as evidence to be trustworthy. Of course the degree of reliability depends on the forum and the number of post inside there. This seems a silly proceedure, but due to the overall fishification of the internet, it has become widespread and fully accepted.

Bixification was common only under active BixXers for many years. Since the BixX itself has lost importance among the cyber freaks, it has been adopted by an increasing number of citizens over the last few years. Allthough to this day most of bixifications are made in one of the dozens of BixX-forums, other communities and forums have their own share. Since ist existance, the bixification has been used alternativly or in addition to the Trust Mail Picture, which is as well considered a new hype phenomenon.

Rumor has it, that the name BixX goes back to Bix Beiderbecke (the most famous jazz concertist of the twenties). But ask a BixXer, they don't recall it.

Recently the bixification has been certified by the W3C subgoup BSC as a social web 2.0 standard. The official logo demostrates the CERTIFIED BIXIFICATION letters souurounding the BSC icon.
