Critter Country is home to the Beár (alt. Bear) nation. It is a member of the Disneyland Confederation, and as such, all citizens of Critter Country enjoy full citizenship in the Mickey Mouse League.

[edit] History

The Bear tribe’s ancestral homeland is described in oral tradition as a forested area in southern Oregon. Archeological records, along with oral folklore, seem to indicate that the Bears migrated to southern California in the early 1700s. There, they encountered the Disneyland Confederation. After a period of conflict involving a series of small battles over natural resources such as fish and lumber (but mostly over fish), peace between the Disneyland nations and the Bear nation was made permanent when the Bear nation petitioned to join the confederation in 1772.

Traditionally, the Bears were the poorest of the nations in the Disneyland Confederation. Poverty remained endemic until the 1980s, as Disneyland’s membership in the Mickey Mouse League provided a growing measure of prosperity. Critter Country was traditionally called Bear Country. The nation was officially renamed Critter Country in 1988. Critter is the anglicization of Kritterás, which means “homeland” in the Beár language

[edit] Present Status

With increasing prosperity, efforts have been made to preserve the Bear language, which had fallen into disuse for decades. The 2000s saw a resurgence of Bear cultural identity. A small population of Bear tribe members lives in Tokyo Disneyland. They hold a renowned annual summer festival celebrating Bear heritage.
