Something which is existentially challenged has difficulty being or remaining in existence.

Many things are existentially challenged, and are nonetheless necessary for many purposes. They serve as explanations for what we don't know to those of simpler minds who cannot process uncertainty. Things that were once existentially challenged, only being in the imagination of innovators, have received help in their efforts to exist in reality, and thus are no longer existentially challenged, but rather things that enrich our universe.

Due to the nature of this condition, it is impossible to prove that something is existentially challenged. The only way to prove that something isn't in that state is to detect it in some manner, which annoys the aforementioned simple-minded people because they cannot prove that their God is not existentially challenged. Existentially challenged entities' ability to have an effect on the morale and behavior of intelligent beings fuels the debate on whether or not non-existent things do, in fact, exist.

Existentially challenged beings often bring hope or help one to cope with sadness. Do you remember being told that Grampa was in Heaven? HA! Sorry Billy, you won't be seeing him unless you hook up with Lucy (in the Sky (with Diamonds)).

Another case is God, who supposedly created everything. There are claims that he destroyed two cities and turned a woman into a pillar of salt, but he now fails to even prove his existence to the agnostic masses. Put two and two together, eh? No less, some people believe in him for hope in recovering from cancer, to avoid feeling like failures, and to not feel so guilty about crashing planes into skyscrapers.
