The Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil (UFSC) is a university in Brazil, and one of its programs is called the Institute for Oriental Studies(Instituto de estudos orientais). [2] Although the university probably has many other programs, this article is going to focus on the Institute for Oriental Studies, because it is one of the university's most well known programs. This is especially interesting because nobody is really sure why, of all the programs at the university, the Institute for oriental studies has become so popular and spread wide across the internet.

[edit] The Institute of Oriental Studies

The Institute of Oriental Studies is such a popular area of study that it can be hard to squeeze into, especially at first. Unlike other areas of interest, one cannot just slide right in, even when they're ready. Although getting in is the toughest part, once you're in you had better be prepared to push on ahead as you move deeper into the program.

Like any university they probably have a math program, a history program, an art program, and many other programs, but you won't find anywhere near the kind of exotic experience you will find in the Oriental Studies program. If you really want a deep understanding of the area, you are going to spend many hours studying it.

[edit] Popularity on the internet

Oh, and here's the logo to the university.

The Brazilian Institute of Oriental studies became popular on the internet in the middle of 2005 [3]. So popular, in fact, that they decided to take their site down because it was receiving too much traffic and using too much bandwidth on their server. One of the only remaining pages on the university website about the program says that the program was started in December 2000 [4]
