Ugh, now that's fucking gross.
Ugh, now that's fucking gross.

Something is Gross or Grotesque when it is ugly or bizarre, and the term is often used to describe weird shapes and distorted forms such as Halloween masks, gargoyles on churches, or Courtney Love. More specifically, the grotesque forms on buildings which are not used as drainspouts should not be called gargoyles, but rather referred to simply as grotesques, or chimeras (who gives a fuck?).

Very Gross.
Very Gross.

In art, grotesques are a used to describe the works of Jackson Pollock who used to take a wet diarrhea shit on a canvas then sell it for 6 figures. Such designs were fashionable in ancient Rome (as frescoed wall decoration, floor mosaics, etc.) and in Renaissance art as wall decoration, ones with corn in them were deemed especially Gross and therefore desirable.

[edit] Human Values

Gross.
Gross.

Grossness is possessed by physical things that are unappealing to the senses, especially visually (again see Courtney Love). It often indicates that something provokes revulsion or horror, such as your mom (oh snap! I just busted on your mom). The term is commonly used in reference to human appearance. The opposite of ugliness is beauty therefore in the bizarro universe rats fucking looks like Jessica Biel making out with Scarlett Johanssen.

Some argue that grossness is a matter of subjective, claiming that one person may perceive to be beautiful something that another may find ugly (as referenced in the popular phrase Beauty is in the eye of the beholder), but those people are always gross looking. However the predominant view in the scientific fields is that human ugliness is part of sexual selection and an indicator that signs of poor genetic or physical health like choosing to sport a mullet will not be passed on to next generations.

Although usually thought of in terms of a lack of physical beauty, the property of ugliness, like beauty, may also be ascribed to other phenomena, such as manners, cleanliness, or the fact that your parents were also gross.
