Headingley is an area of Leeds. For much of the 20th century the area was one of the more attractive areas of the city due to the comparatively low levels of inbreeding within the local population. For much of the 19th and early 20th century the area was famed for being a centre of culture and art in the north of England and was a favourite haunt of many artists and writers.

[edit] Headingley Exodus

In 1978, in order to accomodate for the increasing numbers of students attending the University of Leeds, the local council designated the area for immediate evacuation and redevelopment as a part of the Leeds Student Ghetto. The local population were sent to other parts of the city where they were forced to quickly adapt to horrific levels of drink and drug abuse. Their bodies unable to cope with the strain of such life, nearly all of these early pioneers were wiped out in the plagues of 1981.

[edit] Redevelopment

Leeds City Council went about knocking down all buildings within the exclusion zone and replaced them with cheap nasty student housing. In order to accomodate to student demands all new housing included space in the street where such items as old sofas and empty beer bottles could be stored for future use. Headingley Stadium, home of Leeds' two rubgy teams, Yorkshire Cricket Club and also used for numerous public executions, was built in the area as it was correctly felt that visiting fans would be less likely to smash up an area they believed could suffer no further damage.

Since 1983, public hangings have proved a popular source of entertainment in Headingley.

[edit] Headingley Today

Today Headingley is generally regarded as a complete shithole and it is advised that one generally avoids the place. However, since the reintroduction of public executions in Leeds during the 1980's, the area has attracted a fair amount of tourism, as Britons take in the spectacle of a form of entertainment usually frowned upon in most of the western world.
