High School Musical is a series of movies/TV shows/cups/clocks/dolls produced and made by Disney. We realise there has been tough competition to get on this course, so congratulations to those who have, and those who haven't are unfortunatley being severely decapitated by children. Our thoughts go out to them. This lesson, focusing on movie one, is completely free. If you've been won over by the end, further lessons will cost $40.00 an hour. Enjoy, and remember to take notes in the 'High School Musical' notebooks (out now for two bucks!)
[edit] Original Plot Line
In 2005, a St. Greenbunsberg College graduate Colin Speakerson began writing what became known as 'High School Musical' over the course of two months with his friends Peter Johan and Norah Lepan. The storylines were originally intended for an adult audience, they involved an adolescent by the name of Faisal Stewart, a racially-abused boy in his mid-teens, with a wife-beating, alcoholic father and a mentally-handicapped brother, Daniel. Faisal, an attendant of James Taylor High, has dreams of becoming an actor in musicals such as 'Here's A Tip!' and 'How Rude', but he's distracted by the ongoing feud with his girlfriend Rachel.
Many of Faisal's fellow classmates ridicule him for his haircut (side-parting), the fact that he 'takes a ride on the shortbus' with his brother and the fact that he has a girlfriend, although Faisal knows they'll all be choking their chickens as soon as they get home, without even kissing their mothers. The storyline tackled many taboo subjects such as paedophilia, necrophilia, drug-use and domestic violence. Faisal eventually conquered years of torment and won the lead role in the school's musical entitled "Anthea! A Never Told Horoscope of Entertainment and Adventure"
Speakerson handed the script over to a Disney executive, who turned out to be a janitor. Speakerson later said "I assumed he was a member of staff, he was dressed like Mowgli". The real big-boys called in Speakerson, Johan and Nepan for a meeting. When requested that they'd like this to be a film tackling real issues affecting teenagers in America, Charles Fegisson, executive, said "Ah come on, don't make the audience think! Disney is all about bright lights, attractive young girls and happiness. After all, even my office is the happiest place on earth!".
And so rather than take their highly-realistic film script elsewhere, they felt obliged to stick with Disney. And from that moment on, High School Musical was reworked into the flamboyant, happiness and laughter-filled dancing and singing show you see today. Nearly every single day.
[edit] New Plot Line
A foul-mouthed 15-year-old boy called Freddy Lancaster turns up for school after a New Year's party. He's the most popular adolescent between four walls. He's got over 3,000,000 friends on MySpace (that'll look great on his resume), he throws awesome cuddle parties, he takes his friend out to the mall to spend what's left of his grandfather's money and he has a c*****g good time. But then, a 60-year-old man called Joseph Corbett arrives at the school, and states:
“I'm not about to conduct a funeral for one of your friends, and I'm not going to name the person who took a dump in the cafeteria, even though I saw him do it. I'd like to know, can any of you kids act? Good! Because I've written a musical called 'High School Musical', and I'd very much like to make stars out of each and every one of you. But remember, stay in school, don't do drugs and my musical isn't a gay one (as in bad)”
~ Joseph Corbett
With the word 'remember' in mind, the high school students, including Freddy, turned up to the auditions. Freddy told a joke:
“An obese man walks into a bar and the barman says "What are you having?", the man began throwing up. The barman said "You're not allowed to have outside food in here!"”
~ Freddy Lancaster
Nevertheless, he got the part. Nicolasha sang one of her favourite songs "She'll Be Wearing Pink Pyjamas When She Comes" in a spandex leotard, but was hired due to lack of student's interest toward the auditions, and her body rather than her singing ability.
