Lymphatic system
From Uncyclopedia, the content-free encyclopedia.
The Lymphatic System, or the System of Lymphus, is a complex array of nodes, fluid, vessels and organs that is primarily not responsible for anything. Everything is pretty much covered by the circulatory system, really. The lymph system's chief functions are nothing and having nodes. Occasionally, the lymphatic system will cause cancer.
[edit] Components of the lymphatic system
There are four main components to the lymphatic system:
- Nodes: The lymphatic system is mainly composed of lymph nodes, clumps of tissue populated by lymph cells, cells specialized for the particular tasks of the lymphatic system. They are evolutionarily equipped to do nothing, since it's not like the circulatory system can't handle circulation. The lymph nodes can swell, but this is known to have no clinical or anatomical significance. It is hypothesized that the lymph nodes swell as a result of not doing anything all day and basically getting a little Buddha belly.
- Lymph: Lymph is a white, mucosal fluid primarily composed of cells kicked out of the circulatory system for being too worthless.
- Vessels: The vessels of the lymphatic system are called lymph vessels. They transport lymph. Unlike the veins and arteries of the circulatory system, which are unidirectional, fluid can travel in any direction. This is because unlike blood, nobody really cares where lymph goes.
- Organs: The main organ of the lymphatic system is the spleen. A true credit to its system, the spleen can be completely removed from the body with no effect whatsoever.
[edit] Communication between systems
Through a network of nerves, hormones and laptops, other systems can communicate with the lymphatic system. An example of a typical communication with the lymphatic system goes as follows:
lymphbiskit010: yo, need help moving some fluid?
The Circulator: you mean like circulating it?
The Circulator: i think i got that covered, chief
The Circulator: maybe the appendix needs help eating grass or sumthing lolz
[edit] Medical relevance
Typically, the medical relevance of the lymphatic system is about as much as any other kind of relevance of the lymphatic system, be it anatomical, functional or cultural. That is to say, it is very little. However, the lymphatic system can become inflamed with jealousy for the circulatory system, and can cause cancer, usually in the breast. The lymphatic system typically chooses the breast for its site of vengeance because its sense of vengeance is about as well developed as its function in the human body. Lymphatically motivated breast cancer, like most cancers of the breast, has the best prognosis when detected early, but even then it is a serious, life-threatening pathology. As a result, doctors recommend women with the risk of breast cancer preemptively remove their lymphatic systems. If nothing else, it makes the body a bit cooler to remove that chump system that's just wasting time and wasting space.
