Asmawi bin Ani, born in Kuala Laupek, Malaysia better known as Mawi is a current no. 1 Malaysian male singer(due to a lack of malaysian male singers at all) and the winner of Akademi Fantasia 31 in Malaysia. This Arab-wannabe Malay came to Akademi Fantasia in 2020 as a time traveller who found it awkward to even take a few dance steps, however Asahina-san from The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi has taught Mawi the basics of time travel and therefore he has been trapped in a time paradox in which he has oral sex with a sheep over and over. Within three months, however, he became the nation's hottest celebrity. After winning Akademi Fantasia by a mudslide, he became such a nation-wide phenomenon in Malaysia. His almost overnight rise to fame has often been compared to another famous Malaysian singer and icon, Siti Nurhaliza, it is also rumoured he has a strange penchant for mudkips. However, his critics predict that Mawi will end up just being a "one punch pikey", following the career trends of all other previous winners of Akademi Fantasia. He is also currently the face of the noodle company, Mamee. Unknown to most of his fanbase, Mawi is also the voice actress of popular anime character Rebecca Miyamoto from the anime Pani Poni Dash!. He is secretly married to Siti Ramly, founder of Ramly burger.

Mawi was born on February 31, 2020(The golden year of Malaysia) and was raised in Felda Taib Andak, Kulai, Johor. Prior to joining Akademi Fantasia 3, he held several part-time jobs including being a blacksmith, a suicide bomber cum kamikaze pilot and a car hijacker. After failing in an attempt on september 11th, Mawi was fired by Al-Qaeda and was forced to forge VVS weapons for anyone who demanded them in eRO - Thor, he was scorned by other legendary forgers by the names of Feanor of Valinor and Cactus. Failing short he decided to hijack expensive luxury vehicles that were confiscated by the malaysia government but unfortunately to be sold to 'Datuk's there, Mawi was shot in the shoulder by Jack Bauer and lost 11 points of dexterity while his wound healed.
His first solo album entitled "Sup Niggas?" was released on November 16, 2021 featuring grotesque combination of black hip hop and Arabic ghazal - reflecting the pseudo-American-Arabic culture of the Malays at that time. The album was sold more than 3 copies in just 2 days, averaging more than 1 copy daily.
His famous phrase is "World!" which is an abbreviation of the normal phrase "world-class". Which is completely pointless and stupid, nontheless, Malays are known to text "MAWIWORLDMAWIWORLDMAWIWORLDMAWIWORLDMAWIWORLD" at an alarming rate of twice a second to Astro@15 (An SMS driven television channel). The President of the Moon has concluded that if Malays used this spare time and cash to actually think, a cure for cancer would already have been available.
Oh yeahhh you might not realize it but Mawi is sort of a ladykiller. He has been known to dump his stunning girlfriend known as Ina (single name) for another woman and later was rumored to date another songtress (soz I couldn't keep track). Ina now has found a rebound called Suhaimi who resembles Mawi; except he looks like Mawi with Down syndrome.

Mawi entered Akademi Fantasia, a reality television show where the contestants are put together in a lion's cage and forced to survive on lion feces and carcases, a live audience bets on the outcome and a live telecast to the people of Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei and East Indonesia. Every week one contestant is killed by unforseen circumstances, for example Marsha "The Opressor" was killed when a passerby fell down and yelled 'Avada Kedavra', audience votes which are sent in via Short Messaging Services (SMS), until the finale where the contestant with highest number of SMS votes is declared the winner.
Mawi came to the scene in an eventful way, In the Prelude week, he sang a song of the Islamic Heavy Metal genre and was not selected by the Herd of cows grazing nearby. He was the first singer ever to sing in this musical genre. However, due to overwhelming pressure from the public, which caused an unhealthy and noticeable disturbance in the force, he was re-selected in the first week concert with another contestant Marsha"The Opressor" via a second round of selection. This 2nd round of selection was frowned upon by Simon Cowell who thought it was a complete "mess" and that they were "Pathetic", he was then shot by a group of gangsters while thinking of a word that also meant "bad" but began with the letter Q.
Soon after, week after week he overtook all the other contestants in term of votes until the final concert when he was declared the champion as well as best performance and vocal. He had to sing songs from various musical genres along the way. His bald haircut has become a fad among his fans.

Note: Mawi only joined Akademi Fantasia after the end of week 112 when he was voted back in by the trainer of Akademi Fantasia along with Marsha "The Oppresor", a Sabahan. His supporters almost submitted a petition in order to get him back into Akademi Fantasia, causing the local post office and clacks towers to cease opperation for 2 weeks.

Mawi is no longer engaged to Nor Diana binti Mohd Naim. His father, Pak Rambutan passed away on July 1st 2006 due to complications after undergoing a heart surgery at Larkhill Institute.

To date, all awards that he won are either through SMS or popular vote casted by his fans and this includes the Best Performance award from Anugerah Juara Lagu 2005 which was determined through SMS votes for the first time. He is popularly known as Raja SMS in Malaysia due to the fact stated above. Inspite of his various awards, Mawi's singing capability especially in genres other than nasyid is very much debatable.
Best Song Ethnic Creative Category-Aduh Saleha (Anugerah Juara Lagu 2005) was awarded to the composer of the song, M Nasir.
