Narf!

~ Oscar Wilde on Narf

Narf is the central tenet of modern wisdom. The term originated in Ancient Greece, when the philosopher Pinkes replied to a query from his Roman companion Brainius. The exchange went something like this:

  • Brainius: Are you pondering what I'm pondering, Pinkes?
  • Pinkes: Well, I think so, Brainius, but...no, it's too stupid.
  • Brainius: We shall disguise ourselves as a cow!
  • Pinkes: Narf, Brainius! That was it exactly!

From this, Brainius became the first recorded telepath and Pinkes went on to invent celebrity lookalikes.

The wisdom of Pinkes was later remembered in the insight "Venn ist das nunstuck git und slotermeyer? Ja! Beyerhund das oder de flippervaldt gesphurt!" Brainius, too, was remembered for his wisdom, and his tomb bears the legend "I hope that someday, our names will inspire a program on a talking box of images...and I could be played by some tiny twit in a beard."
