Pantheon

βMan, I am confused! Why do these pans have penises again?β
~ Oscar Wilde on crack
A pantheon is an amount of pans that is greater than one. Many kitchens may have multiple pans instead of a single pan, especially in Eastern kitchens. Some Mediterranean kitchens, including Greek and Italian kitchens, also feature pantheons.
[edit] Origins of Pantheons
Pantheons usually turn up because of the complexity of the dishes - more than one thing needs to be cooking at one time, and there's four hotplates on the stove as well as that electric one you bought years ago when microwaves first came out and you decided you didn't really like ovens much and got rid of it, so why not have more than one pan going?
In many cases, a pantheon will start with one pan, and will expand as the recipes cooked become more complex and require more stuff going on at once. This phenonema is hardly restricted to pans - those stupid little cookie cutters any thirty-year old kitchen ends up having is another example of the phenonemon.
[edit] Properties of Pantheons
Except in rare cases, the individual pans in a pantheon are differentiated by the various tasks they usually perform - one pan may be the meat-cooking pan, for instance, while another may be used for deep-frying. In some pantheons, there may be a pan that affects the flavour of the food it cooks in unpredictable ways (usually referred to as a 'trickster pan'), which usually isn't a pan as such but is usually included in meals because of the unusual dimension of flavour it brings to them.
Tragedy struck the Pantheon late Monday, May 5, 2008. NASA reported a meteorite entered the atmosphere at 18:47. The meteorite crashed into the roof of the pantheon creating structural damage to the dome. The dome fell into the rest of the building 3 hours later after suffering major cracks and bends of key structural components. Said one anonymous visitor to the Pantheon, "Holy molasses. My life is over." Archaeologists have determined that no recovery is available. US government has requested that no Pantheon look-alike creations be started in the states, as it may have severe psychological impacts of children, adults, and people all throughout the world. A fine of $25,000 may be imposed to all violators of this law. The library at the University of Virginia was also destroyed by another small meteor 2 hours after the original destruction of the first one. Governments around the world are looking into the possibility of terrorist attacks. Please obey all laws put into place in this time of woe.
[edit] Pantheons vs. Single-pans
In meals created with pantheons, the important points of the meal are usually the interplay between the different ingredients, as opposed to single-pan recipes, which usually emphasise the importance of the relationship between the meal and the diners.
