The Spiritual Embodiment Committee is a committee is a self-appointed regulatory body governing all things spiritual. The body ensures that no spiritual being has a monopoly over any world religion, instead ensuring that there are many religions with significant market share. This helps to promote conflict on Earth, and prevents over-population.

[edit] Judaism Inc.

Disputes occurred when a well established religion begun by a deity known as God splintered into two rival companies after well documented publicity outing. Spotting a gap in the market for a forgiving and loving God, a segment of Judaism Inc broke away to form a privately owned company known as Christianity.

Judaism Inc appealed to the committee who ordered reprisals. These consisted of the sanctioning of persecution. This was largely carried out by the followers of more ancient Gods such as the Roman religion, and involved lion baiting and stoning. Judaism Inc also stepped up its campaigns against Christianity, culminating in the killing of the CEO, Jesus Christ but several strongly worded letters circulated among the newly founded religion by Vice CEO St Paul stiffened Christian resolve.

[edit] Failure of the takeover

As a result, the attempted control of Christianity failed, and the aggressive takeover actions of the entrepreneurial Christians continued. By the Middle Ages, the boot was on the other foot however. Christianity’s attempt to hold onto the majority of the market share was perceived to be under threat by a new religion, Islam. However, it ignored the usual conventions of approaching the SEC when it did not get a favourable decree, and embarked on a crusade into the Middle East. Ancient embittered hatreds broke free, and they stopped off en route to give the followers of Judaism Inc a good stuffing along the way. Since then the SEC has been rendered largely ineffectual, and has simply come to serve as a poignant reminder of a hope for a peaceful spiritual plane.
