St. Canard is the second-largest city in Calisota after Duckburg, and the birthplace of crimelord Howard the Duck.

[edit] Origins

After the founding of Duckburg, St. Canard was constructed as a port to the capitol to provide trade with the far-east. As time passed, St. Canard grew from a small port to a shipping town and eventually a city in it's own right. Unlike Duckburg, that was still fairly backward from it's own isolation, St. Canard advanced rapidly due to links with the rest of the world, and allowed Duckburg to advance through the link between the two cities.

[edit] Expansion and Trade

When ships sailed and left their crews stranded at port, the sailors took up residence in St. Canard. Most of these were usually Ducks or Geese, and would settle in St. Canard rather than waste energy travelling to Duckburg.

In 1884, an ex-sailor called Fenton Crackshell became not only St. Canard's first Mayor, but also opened several Bording-Houses and Taverns as accommodation and employment for the marooned. From this, St. Canard was allowed to increase. Fishing trades appeared along the seafront, while others became employed as builders or farmers. Eventually, St. Canard had grown to a point where it could be classed as an actual city.

Abroad, St. Canard had links to Russia, China and Japan. From these countries, St. Canard would barter for trade in exchange for other goods. The highest ever barter was in 1891, when Tsar Alexander III of Russia exchanged 150,000 pounds of grain for 200,000 pounds of timber from St. Canard. Though this kept St. Canard from growing hungry, it did unfortunately create a famine throughout Russia due to lack of food for peasants.

[edit] War-Time St. Canard

Like Duckburg, St. Canard evaded damage during World War Two despite various efforts to torpedo the city by Japanese submarines. Thankfully, the frozen body of Fenton Crackshell had been resurrected, and an enormous fishing net draped underwater to capture the submarines before they could open fire.

In World War Three, the interstate highway between St. Canard and Duckburg was completely destroyed by aerial bombings. 21,000 were killed, and the two cities were completely isolated.

[edit] Commerce

St. Canard is predominantly a commercial city and has no places of interest for tourists. However, the city is a notable stamping ground for various commercial enterprises. To name a few:

  • Virgin Atlantic - Has it's main call-centre in St. Canard.
  • Warner Bros. - Own the fifth largest building in the city.
  • Mallard Industries - Main HQ of the empire owned by Drake Mallard, AKA: Darkwing Duck.
