It is unclear where, or when, this bizarre ritual began, but the slaying of evil entities using such a device is thought to have started a few moments after the dawn of time, in a little town called Sunnydale. It would appear that a large number of unfriendly goths and emos with pointy teeth have been terrorising the inhabitants with their strange craving for blood, their grotesque foreheads, and the way in which they are comparatively difficult to kill.
