Most of this site is pretty harmless nonsense, or satire. So then to find such racist content in this article, such as the "Where To / Not To Find Black People" and "Special Notes" sections, is a little disturbing. I'd like to think that isn't the direction this site is supposed to be heading. Seeing things like "It is widely accepted that a pizza can feed a family of four more effectively than a Black man" on Uncyclopedia doen't sit right with me, and unless someone can come up with a good reason to keep it, I'm going to delete all of it. Okay, I removed some of the worst stuff from the article, but it's still not good by any stretch of the imagination. I honestly think if we can't have pages on the races without using tired, mean-spirited stereotypes, the pages shouldn't be on the site at all. Can we agree that just because you may not like rap music, that that doesn't necessarily mean that your snide comments about it are funny? This is a humor site, not a place to vent about how much you apparently dislike black culture.

Look, what you have to understand here is that no one person wrote this article. It's been about a hundred different people coming along and changing things, adding sentences, removing sentences etc - there's no-one in particular to yell at. If you come along and shout on this page, you're just making it harder for the people watching the page to try and keep it a) neutral and b) funny. If you have a problem with the page, state it politely and don't bandy about insults and allegations of racism - just state which exact part you have a problem with, or better, change it yourself. Kike77, this isn't about bitching about racism, we have many racist articles that are funny, such as niggerlodeon. Unfortunately, as it stands now, the Black People article is not funny, but merely racist. I think people have a right to believe whatever they want to, even if it's wrong, and that includes racist beliefs, but this is the wrong wiki for that. Try playing over at the White Nationalism Wiki, you'll be happier there and so will we. You know this is a "humor" site that can be edited by any lame, so you're bound to find something ignorant like this. Do not let it upset you, and don't attempt to suggest that it should be removed because it won't be. Yes, the comments are very disparaging and disrespectful, and I fail to see how any of it is funny; however, you know who you are as a black man/woman, and since the things being said are untrue, you should not let it get to you. Let the editors and those in charge of the site see that it is tasteless humor. Besides, it's not like they would say any of these things to our face. They know better.

The article for African-American redirects to this site as a slap in the face of unfunny political correctness. I suspect that the people editing this site contain a large number of African-Americans ready to spring at any sign of an un-scientifically accepted racial distinction due to the racial tension surrounding any issue that mentions a distinction between the black and white-skin toned races, whereas the article on “white people” was started by and will primarily have been edited by black people, as whites’ disapproval of black opinions is wholly looked down upon. The article on “white people” is not appropriate on its own, but is only so in conjunction with an analogous article on “black people”. The other way around could conceivably be done appropriately, but it would have to be handled delicately. I don’t feel like going into how I believe that could be handled appropriately.

There is a lot of black, anti-white racism in our country for the purpose of creating a degree of racial pride in the black community, as was determined to be worthwhile during the black power movement of the late 1960s. There was a huge amount of white anti-black racism up until around this period which was the root cause of effectively all the current trends regarding distinctions between blacks and whites.

More recently there has been a growing ideal among whites (driven primarily by government actions and those of African American interest organizations) of anti-racism, which has caused most whites to do such things as apologize profusely before describing a person by the color of his skin, relating scientific studies describing differences in the mating habits of men vs. women (the latter actually happened in my intro psych class yesterday - I thought it was one of the funniest things ever). A white will probably be hit over the head (metaphorically) if he uses anything like the phrase “that black guy over there is in my chemistry class” in front of a group of his white friends. If you want to see how any of us (white or black) would act naturally (without our racial history) I recommend looking to the Asians.

There is, however, a minority of the white population who still hold some of the falsified beliefs (see below) of black inferiority that gave rise to the slave trade and the racial hatred of the late 19th and [roughly] first half of the 20th century; And so, (as a white person) care must be taken not to become associated with this minority.

The reason the “white people” article is appropriate is that no individual obviously holds any of racial stereotypes referred to. In my opinion, this would just be another example of black hatred of whites unless there were an opposing article of the same character (though preferably more carefully done) on black people.

A criterion I volunteer to judge whether an statement is inappropriate is the following:

Is it a statement that could reasonably be misconstrued as having come from a person who had any irrational aversion to black people?

This, however, could be easily interpreted differently by different people so I offer a less perfect criteria for appropriateness:

Is it a belief obviously held by no intelligent individual? or…
Is it a belief or accepted fact that does not imply a superiority or inferiority between the members of the two groups?
For either of the above: Is it in good humor?

An application of these criteria to the article as of March 27, 2007:

I approve of the article on Dietary Habits, because it fits both the second and (in my opinion) the third criteria. The joke is that it seems black people constantly return poetically to their history of strife during even seemingly irrelevant speeches. I’m pretty sure this has happened on family guy at least once.

I approve of the “behind you” image and the end of the page as the stereotype that black men walk the earth essentially as demons raping and murdering innocent (and pretty) white women has been wholly accepted to be true less often than it is of white men. It thus of course satisfies the first and third criteria.

The first paragraph of the first entry would be funny if its humor did not depend on a concept that has been beaten into the ground.

I fail to see what’s funny about the second paragraph of the first entry, the image where the generic human-form image was color inverted to represent humans of the black variety (analogous maybe to the distinction between white and black Go pieces), or the entry on flavor in the ethnic statistics table.

I think that the paragraph on Michael Jackson’s race deserves its own entry, perhaps entitled “Michael Jackson” or the like.

The “ritual black tribal dancers”, while a humorous observation, fails the inappropriateness criterion as it refers to the idea that black people are naturally more “primitive” than white people, an idea held by many irrational racists. It is, however, obvious that this implication was not the authors’ intent. Also, and for essentially the same reason I believe the entry on religion in the table of statistics to be inappropriate.

I approve of the image of Al Sharpton. Though I personally don’t know who he is, I find it a hysterical misinterpretation of an event whose nature I can infer.

I approve of the image of the “jolly fat man”, though I recommend it be changed to the “jolly fat black man” to have more of an educational air.

I loved the entry on “ancient history”.

I think that this article should be valuable to everyone. Its purpose, in my eyes, should be to take a swing at racial tensions. All we need is some (non-racist) white people who have some idea what the hell they’re doing and with a sense of humor, unconstrained by those black people who are out to see racists in everyone.

Notes:

Some falsified beliefs regarding African Americans include that they all eat watermelons all the time, that they’re lazy, that they’re not cognitively as evolutionarily developed as white people, etc.. For curiosity’s sake, it is my opinion that these beliefs arose out of convenient misinterpretations of actions in general.

In this article I use the term stereotype to be defined by the following definition I found using Google’s “define:_______” query:

On the other hand, while the following definitions appear correct, I do not use them because the only aspect that distinguishes them from statistical tendencies or trends is a matter of interpretation. I personally consider these misinterpretations to be idiotic and a matter of ignorance of reality and so not even worth considering in most situations.

A stereotype is a popularly held belief about a type of person or a group of people which does not take into account individual differences. [www.gsanetwork.org/justiceforall/definitions.htm]

The misinterpretation originates from a misunderstanding that there exists more than an insignificant number of statements about a groups of people that can be applied to every member of that group.

I just sat down an wrote this so I take no pride in its format or organization.
