Indeed an interesting idea. Do you know Douglas Adams' living mattresses?
I just think you could forget about the emotional tone of the human 'exploitation' issue - remember it's suposed to look like an encyclopedia entry, I think it's more funny this way - and put more weight on the "scientific" information: for instance you could talk more about the reproductive behavior and the natural habitat of the fridges... needAbrain
