Yeah, I was a bit abstract over on VFH - so here's a clearer critique.

There's some good stuff in here - like the Oedipus line for example, and making it a game in international relations is a neat idea which should really be expanded upon.

I quite like the game structure, but I think it needs to be made clearer and simpler. Is there no step 4 as a joke or is that a mistake? Internal links could help smooth things a bit too.

I tend to agree with Brad about the sexist angle and what I was getting at in my comment is that you could work with this by (a) balancing out with more stuff on men's reactions to their age - e.g. basic clumsy stupidity - and perhaps portray women in a slight less predatory light. It's when everyone is ridiculed in a more broadly human way that I think these kinds of articles really take off, IMHO. And linking it more to diplomacy and politics would help a great deal too.

I reckon if you keep polishing it, you could get it really going somewhere, and believe me its rare enough when I see that in an article.

I think the "sexist" parts are, well, OK (I just skimmed it) because they clearly point out the societal double standard — old men are "respectable" and old women are "used." But that's just me. I still don't think it's VFH-worthy. Maybe someday..... —Lenoxus 21:17, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
