The Pythagorean Theorem is a simple concept made mathematically complex by some doofus named Pythagoras. He's the one who had an epiphany and said that cutting across a field, parking lot, or other similarly shaped plot of land is a hell of a lot faster than walking around one, and sought to prove that via a mathematical formula that would haunt middle and high school students for years.
