NASA's VH-1 offered no unnecessary excitement.

VH-1 was an experimental spacecraft developed by NASA to deliver lightweight 80's geezer music via satellite to aging yuppies in the United States.

In the early 80s, NASA scored a critical success with the MTV program. Videos of the spacecraft being launched and astornauts in multi-colored spacesuits planting flags into the lunar surface were seen repeatedly all over the world. High spirits were soon dashed as Congress cut NASA's budget.

NASA decided to turn to a strategy of "better, faster, cheaper" missions, leading to the VH-1 program. Prototypes were powered by bands such as Fleetwood Mac and Hootie and the Blow, which provided a stable, always predictable flow of power. Later versions incorporated weak but reliable power from Sting, The Dave Matthews Band and a favorite old NASA workhorse, Madonna.

Later versions of the craft, VH-2 and VH-3, never made it past the design phase, as it was determined from lengthy demographic analysis that VH-1's strangely perfect balance of blandness and inertia would likely keep the craft in operation for decades.
